what we do

animal sanctuary

Our Zen tradition teaches us that we are deeply interconnected with the world around us, and it encourages us to find ways to be of service. Here at the Magnolia Zen Center, part of our practice is taking care of the animals in our environment. This includes providing food to the local birds and wild animals through outdoor feeding stations, rescuing and fostering cats (in coordination with a local no-kill shelter), and in some cases adopting cats in need. This work has become an active and practical expression of our spiritual practice and our vows to serve all sentient beings.

In addition, the Zaltho Foundation, which has supported veterans and their family members since 1993, recognizes that pets often play a big role in veterans' recovery and sense of wellbeing. Here you find more information on our Veterans' Pets Healthcare Fund.
