Helping professionals are often on the front lines of intense suffering and need time to nurture their own well-being. Once a year, the Zaltho Foundation offers a 5-day meditation retreat for professionals who work with combat veterans or other populations experiencing post-traumatic stress. Helping professionals include (but are not limited to) social workers, psychologists, nurses, doctors, and chaplains.
At this retreat helping professionals have the opportunity to learn and practice several different forms of meditation. Much of our time together is spent in silence, which supports us in connecting with ourselves and nurturing insight.
The retreat is led by Claude AnShin Thomas, Zen teacher and author of At Hell's Gate: A Soldier's Journey from War to Peace. The program is grounded in Zen Buddhist practice but intended for participants of any and all spiritual backgrounds.
