About the Zaltho Foundation
The Zaltho Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to addressing the causes and consequences of violence in and among individuals, families, and societies. Using the tools of meditation and drawing on the teachings of Zen Buddhism, we educate people in the peaceful transformation of conflict and suffering.
The Zaltho Foundation, Inc. works with:
- Combat veterans and their families: We offer meditation retreats for veterans that provide a unique and supportive environment in which veterans can recognize and begin to heal the emotional and spiritual wounds of combat. For more information, click here.
- Communities impacted by violence: We offer teachings and talks to trauma survivors, prison inmates, gang members, schools, and government organizations seeking to respond wisely to violence.
- The general public: We provide workshops, talks, and retreats that present the techniques of sitting meditation, breath awareness, communication skills, conflict resolution, and emotional healing techniques within the context of meditation practice. Titles of talks include: Seeds of War, Seeds of Peace, Courage to Change, Peacemaking in a Violent World, Living with Strong Emotions
- Zen Buddhist practitioners: We offer formal Zen Buddhist retreats with a focus on the manifestation of Zen practice in daily life. These retreats take a variety of forms including residential retreats at Zen centers, street retreats (where we live homeless), and pilgrimages through areas of current or historical conflict, and prison retreats.
